Katrina O'Connor - Therapist

Katrina O'Connor

Hi there, thank you for visiting my website.

My name is Katrina, I am a BACP  registered qualified Integrative Therapist offering counselling and therapy to adults, adolescents and couples.  I also work with organisations to enhance performance and improve group dynamics through assessment, coaching and building personal development awareness.

In one to one therapy, our sessions are a safe space for you to be heard in an emphatic and nonjudgmental way; my approach is one of calm, compassion and care.

If you would like to explore therapy with me in more detail I suggest an initial chat for us to get a sense of what working together might be like.

During the Covid 19 pandemic, safety is my top priority so I am working exclusively online via Zoom.

How therapy can help & my approach

How Therapy Can Help

Perhaps you need support with an unexpected wobble or long buried trauma or feelings have resurfaced when you least expect them.  Life can throw us curve balls, shaking our confidence or "sense of self".  Anxiety may rise at certain times, which may be a pattern worth exploring.

Speaking to a loved one may not be an option so working with a professional exploring the "why" and "why now " may help to understand unhelpful or negative behaviour.

Working at your pace, we would look at coping strategies, building resilience and awareness to what no longer serves you.

First Step

You can contact me via phone or email, I offer a free non-obligatory call so you can ask any question you wish.

Our first session would provide the opportunity to discuss what has brought you to look for support at this time and how we would work together.  We could look at pace, scope and what you would like to work on; your time, your voice, your pace.

Typically we would have weekly sessions for 50 minutes and part of our work is to have regular reviews.

During the Covid 19 crisis, in line with WHO guidelines, I am working exclusively online via Zoom, which is easily downloaded app and is a safe and effective way of working.

Leadership Coaching and Development

Qualified in Hogan Psychometric Assessment,  I work with organisations who wish to enhance their Leadership Team's performance through building individual awareness, one to one coaching and improving team dynamics to greater align and execute against business strategy.

This could take the shape of initial assessments, data gathering and analysis together with one to one coaching/feedback and taking this into wider group discussion; the aim being to surface blockers and blind spots in individuals and within a group dynamic.

My role is to facilitate and create the safe space for individuals to have the time and headspace to share/digest feedback and to set implementable about personal development, goals and strategies.  As owners of the process, individuals feel heard and in control of their own career and destiny.

Hogan is also effective in individual coaching, personal development and selection.

Testimonials from people I have worked with

I first started working with Katrina 18 months ago, at that time I had experienced 2 severe breakdowns, which were induced from an awful work related grievance and I was prescribed medication to help manage the depression, anxiety and ADHD.
My mental health is quite complex as I have been diagnosed with ADHD, dyslexia and dyspraxia and at that time was under investigation for epilepsy.
In the course of working with Katrina, I realised that she was an expert therapist, able to understand and explain paths of my own thought processes.
Katrina helped me reach my goals, which were to stay in employment and to titrate off medication. In my sessions, we planned what I could do to help cope and strategies that I could do. I learnt a lot about my mental health and how to cope and live in a healthier lifestyle.
Katrina is definitely worth her weight in gold, her skill set is vast and she is extremely competent and knowledgeable. I have never felt so safe with someone at my most vulnerable time.

Katrina has really helped me navigate through recent challenging and anxious situations at work, and I have found my sessions with her always leave me feeling calmer, stronger and reassured.

Her empathetic ear, kind demeanour and extensive professional experience mean she not only listens and understands, but is able to provide me with a renewed sense of confidence and guide me to feeling empowered taking my next professional steps.

I couldn’t recommend talking with Katrina highly enough. Her down to earth and friendly approach to therapy means I found building trust in our sessions came naturally and quickly, which I value tremendously, and I continue to look forward to my weekly sessions with her - five years and still going strong!

I first started my sessions with Katrina  in January, when the cold and gloomy weather matched my mood. I was struggling with a lot of things and felt very overwhelmed. Katrina was warm, understanding and had great insight into why I was feeling the way I was. I felt so comfortable from the get go we built a strong level of trust, and that has let me open up in ways I previously haven’t wanted to. I really like the way Katrina gives me so many helpful tools and coping mechanisms taken from different therapy models depending on what the current conversation or situation calls for. She also constantly refers back to previous conversations we’ve had which makes me feel listened to, and understood. I know my journey with Katrina will continue as I discover so much each week, after every session I feel lighter and energised. For the first time therapy is really helping me change my view of the world, and most importantly, myself.
